The film is made with special effects, GFX, VFX by Eiji Tsuburaya. It is the first film in the Godzilla franchise and showa series. The film is starred by Akira Takarada, Momoko Kochi, Akihiko Hirata, Takashi Shimura, Haruo Nakajima and Katsumi Tezuka as the performers for Godzilla. Plot: As a result of destroying the Japanese freighter Eiko-maru near Odo Island, another ship, the Bingo-maru is sent to investigate. A fishing boat is also destroyed. Fishermen stop catching fish mysteriously and blamed to an ancient sea creature known as ‘Godzilla’. Reporters come to investigate the incident. That night, a strong storm strikes the island destroying the reporter’s helicopter. Godzilla destroys 17 homes, kills nine people and 20 of the villager’s livestock. The Odo residents go to Tokyo to demand disaster relief. The government sends paleontologist Kyohei Yamane to lead an investigation on the island. He discovered giant radioactive footprints and a trilobite. He presents all the findings in Tokyo and tells that Godzilla is about 164 ft and has been disturbed it from the underwater. At that time, 17 ships are lost at sea. Ten frigates are dispatched to attempt to kill Godzilla. This matter disappoints Yamane to study Godzilla. Yamane’s daughter Emiko decides to break off hr arranged engagement with Dr. Srerizawa because she loves Hideto Ogata. She reveals the secret about Serijawa’s lab and destruction to Ogata. At last Serijawa shows the ‘Oxygen Destroyer’ to him. A navy ship takes Ogata and Serijawa to plant the device tin Tokyo Bay. Ogota and under the water take the ‘Oxygen Destroyer’. Ogata comes back to the ship but Serijawa cut off the rope under the water. The reaction of the device is started then Godzilla is dead. The people are very satisfied that the Godzilla is dead but they mourn for Serjawa’s death. Film Making Styles and techniques: With the help of cinematographer Masao Tamai director Ishiro Honda depicted Japanese original set up. Here he needed to work with Tsuburaya’s team of special effects. The blending of Godzilla’s effects and real cinematography portray the main theme of the story. Though this film has widely recognition in the field of world horror film, it has some negative reviews. Some accused the film of exploiting the widespread devastation that the country had suffered in the World War II. Most of the film was shot in the Toho lot. Honda’s team also filmed on location in the Shima peninsula in Mic prefecture to film in the Odo Island. Which are 50 Toho extras and Honda’s team establishing their base negotiated with the Japan self-defence forces to film scenes requiring the military 2000 girls were used for peace prayer. The score by Akira Ifukube was used in this film. The music in pleasure boat, scene is more western than Japanese own. The use of background music is also done by Akira Ifubuke. It is the first monstrous film at that time. So film making style and activities of the team were very hard. But director hired some skilled and popular crews to make the set of the Godzilla. At that time, in 1954 it was very tough to make the set of Godzilla like this. Special effects are also important in this film. It got Japan Movie Association Awards for best special effects in 1954. A structure was built and two artists starred and operated the structure. The set is designed to look it like actual monster. The set of the houses and the electricity towers are designed to look them alike real one. Many background scores are created separately. For example; the sound Godzilla’s footsteps, attack Godzilla, Frigate March, horror of the water tank and many. The background music is made in such a way that the music is alike of the scenery or the object. It is a science fiction film. Director has shown a love story or romanticism a little at the ending time. Ogata is the hero of Emiko. But actually Serijawa is the hero of the film because he has ended the ending scene of the film. He has died because the love has died, Emiko has gone. In a love story generally we see male lover of a film is the hero. But in this film Serijawa is the hero not only to Ogata and Emiko but also to the general people.
